DPACK Demo Collector Tutorial

Team DPACK

Overview

The DPACK portal recently introduced a demonstration version of the DPACK collector software available to all Dell User, Partner User, and OEM User accounts in DPACK.  The following tutorial provides instructions on how to access this new feature to be used as a demonstration to End User accounts or to collect and analyze internal infrastructure.

Step 1:  Download DPACK Collector Software

To begin using your DPACK account, you should first download the DPACK collector software by following these steps.

  1. Login to your DPACK portal account.  (http://dpack.dell.com)
  2. Click the Download Demo Collector button on DPACK dashboard.
  3. Choose the correct version of the DPACK software and click the Download button for it.
  4. Once the file download has completed, extract the DPACK software, user guide, and README file to a directory on the computer you wish to run it.

Step 2:  Run DPACK Collector Software

  1. Open DellPack directory and double-click DellPack.exe.
  2. Click the "Yes, I agree" button to accept the EULA.
  3. A notice will appear alerting the user of the DPACK Demo Collector what use cases are acceptable for this version of DPACK.  Click OK to continue.
  4. Confirm your name/company is listed on the DPACK User Identity screen and click the “Yes, this is me.” button.
  5. Click the "Ok" button to accept the default of connecting to the DPACK web services to auto-send your results (highly recommended).

    • Select from Windows, VMware, or Linux servers
    • Enter the IP address/DNS name and click the “Connect” button

NOTE:  While DPACK is running, you cannot logoff nor reboot the computer that it is running on.  This will terminate DPACK before it has completed its collection schedule and could result in errors in the data.  We recommend that the computer running DPACK be locked during the collector run.

Step 3:  View DPACK Project

The DPACK portal will automatically create a project for collector runs that are streamed back to the DPACK servers.  TO access the DPACK project created for your collector run(s), follow these steps.

  1. Login to your DPACK portal account.  (https://dpack2.dell.com)
  2. Scroll down the dashboard to "Latest Projects"
  3. You should see a new project ending with the date and time of when DPACK was started.
  4. Click "View Project" to review the DPACK report.

NOTE:  If you did not stream the DPACK collector data back to the DPACK servers, you will have to create your DPACK project. To create your project, the following steps should be completed.  We recommend that you

  1. Login to your DPACK portal account.  (https://dpack2.dell.com)
  2. Scroll down the dashboard to "Latest Collector Runs"
  3. Your running DPACK collector run will be listed first with the status saying "In Progress".
  4. Click the "Add to Project" link under your processing collector run
  5. Provide a name for your project in the New Project Name filed, click the "Add to Project" button.
  6. When prompted, click "Yes" to view your DPACK project.  You will be instantly taken to your DPACK project to begin reviewing your performance data.
